Alice Walker is a remarkable women who has done much in her life. From her compaigns about Civil Rights, Anti-Nuclear War, and banning of female mutilation to her literary works of essays, novels, poetry and even her own publishing company Walker constantly makes a difference in the world around her. Today we are going to look at one of those aspects, her novel, The Color Purple. In both the novel and the subsequent movie by the same name, Walker parrells the advances of women's rights through the main character, Celie. Although there are of course slight differences the book and the movie approach in achieving this goal, both strongly get their points across. After studying The Color Purple in comparison to American society one will see that where society has made many advances and changes much is left to do. In several ways that story is far more advanced than real life society and in other ways neither is complete in its equality.
